Granular permissions for users and API keys
At PageVitals, we're constantly enhancing our tools to better serve our diverse user base. Today, we're excited to announce a powerful new feature: Granular Permissions for Viewer users and API keys.
This update is particularly valuable for agencies and web performance consultants managing multiple client websites, allowing you to share access securely and selectively.
What's new with permissions?
Previously, user permissions in PageVitals were tied to fixed roles: Viewer (readonly), Admin, and Owner. Admins and Owners had full access to all websites, while Viewers were limited to readonly access across the board.
With this update, you can now:
- Assign Viewer users to specific websites.
- Limit API keys to access only the data for specific websites.
This means you have more control and flexibility over who sees what—perfect for managing client accounts and sensitive data.
Why it matters
Agencies and web performance consultants often juggle multiple client accounts. Sharing performance data with clients while ensuring they only see their own websites is crucial for both security and collaboration.
With granular permissions:
- Streamline collaboration by granting clients access only to their websites.
- Enhance security by restricting data access to what’s necessary.
Admins and Owners retain full access to all websites, ensuring they can still manage the account as a whole.
How granular permissions work
For Viewer roles
You can now assign specific websites to Viewer users. This is ideal for giving clients readonly access to their website's performance metrics without exposing other data in your account.
For API keys
Granular permissions extend to API keys as well. When generating an API key, you can now specify the websites it can access. This ensures third-party integrations and scripts only interact with the data they need.
